Danielle Farrow is an award-winning, classically trained actor based in Edinburgh, with extensive experience across stage, screen, and audio. Passionate about rich language and complex characters, Danielle brings depth, clarity, and emotional precision to both classical and contemporary work. As playwright Ian Doescher puts it: “There are actors who are always great… who elevate anything they’re in. That’s what I think of when I think of Danielle Farrow.”
Danielle’s enduring love of Shakespeare has led to a wide range of roles including Juliet, Shylock, Viola, Oberon, Lysander, Prospero, and the Bawd in Pericles, with performances being praised for her “seamless handling of iambic pentameter and comic versatility” (edfringe.com), and her ability to deliver “heightened and poetic dialogue with sensitivity and credibility” (Rob David, Tightlaced Theatre). Her one-person show, inVocation: A Shakespearean Horror, which premiered at the Edinburgh Horror Festival, presents a performer who has discovered THE way to act Shakespeare: simply use rituals and invoke Shakespearean characters to possess you. What could possibly go wrong?
A versatile performer, Danielle has worked in immersive theatre, commedia dell’arte, devised productions, and new writing. Notable stage credits include playing the historical figures Alice Schalek, WWI journalist, in The Last Days of Mankind (Leith Theatre, with The Tiger Lillies), and Madeleine Smith – a Victorian possible murderess (her trial returned the verdict of ‘not proven’) – in I Promise I Shall Not Play Billiards (Tightlaced Theatre), as well as Lady Macbeth in I’m a Shakespearean Character, Get Me Out of Here! (Charioteer Theatre), touring across Italy and Scotland.
Danielle’s film work includes the award-winning The Tail of Two Sisters, and her work has directors noting her “fearless” performances and ability to fill “any theatre or film frame” with boldness, sensitivity, and precision (Gillian Morrison, Thought Out Media). She has narrated audiobooks for Harper Collins and Geddes & Grosset, as well as for the RNIB. She features in the critically acclaimed web series The Show Must Go Online and Shakespeare Republic: The Lockdown Chronicles – the most awarded anthology series in Web Series World Cup history, created and directed by the brilliant Sally McLean.
Danielle is also a Shakespeare coach, speaker, and consultant, and she is currently developing Shakespeare Monologue World, a long-term project celebrating the breadth and resonance of Shakespeare’s speeches, and Shakespeare Collective Scotland, bringing together wonderful people who share her passion for The Bard – though she is also very aware that Scotland has its own renowned National Bard in Robert “Rabbie” Burns!
With a background in philosophy, theatrical training, and cross-disciplinary performance experience, Danielle brings an informed curiosity and imaginative depth to every role, always looking to embody both brain and guts – even when not playing a singing Zombie.
